Replacing the 3JH3E, it is based on a completely redesigned cylinder block and new combustion system, developing 39HP (28.7kW) at 3,000 rpm. This is a naturally aspirated three-cylinder diesel, producing 25% more torque than the model it replaces from less than 10% increased displacement, now at 1.642 litres. A modified intake silencer, low vibration and decreased operating rpm contribute to an average reduction of five decibels in noise.
The 3JH4 runs cleaner and produces less smoke, complying with EPA Tier 2 and BSO/SAV Stage 2 regulations. For easy maintenance, a gear-driven sea water pump is mounted at the front of the engine, close to the fuel filter, oil change and dipstick. A new-design V-pulley ensures long belt life. An electric stop solenoid is standard and a new compact control panel is available, complete with hour gauge. As standard, the alternator is 60 amps and an 80 amp option is offered. The engine is the same size overall as its predecessor, with an identical footprint, allowing for ease of installation or repowering.

Model:3YM20SD
The latest in a series of new-generation compact diesels from Yanmar Marine is its three-cylinder 3YM20, developing 21HP (15.3kW) at 3,600 rpm. Displacement is 0.854 litres.
The naturally aspirated 3YM20 features a completely redesigned cylinder block and combustion system, configured for quietest possible, vibration-free running.
It is a vertical four-stroke, fresh water cooled. With indirect injection and a swirl pre-combustion chamber, this all-new unit complies with EPA Tier 2 and BSO/SAV Stage 2 emissions regulations.
A compact control panel, injection pump, electric stop solenoid and 60-amp alternator are introduced as standard. To meet heavier electrical demands, an 80-amp alternator is offered as an option. Maintenance has been simplified, with the water pump, fuel filter, oil change and dip stick located on the same side of the engine, at the front.

Model: 3YM30SD
The first of Yanmar Marine's new-generation compact diesels for sailboats and runabouts, the 29HP (21.3kW) 3YM30 inboard and 3YM30C double-seal saildrive version, have gone into full production.
Based on a completely redesigned cylinder block and combustion system, the new engines are quieter, produce more torque and run cleaner than the models they replace. They comply with the latest stringent EPA Tier 2 emissions regulations.
Naturally aspirated, these latest Yanmars have an extra 12% displacement, now at 1.116 litres, rated 29HP at 3,600 rpm. The flat torque curve from 3,200 rpm upwards allows a choice of propeller size, matching the prop to the application.
For ease of installation in new boats and for repowering, they are the same size as their predecessors and have identical footprints.

Dedicated to boating and with the smallest dimension in it's class, the 4JH4 matched several transmission options, including the heavy duty SD40 saildrive with it's patented dual-seal diaphragm and audible water sensor.
